Network management – a brief abstract

At a time when Ethernet was invented by Bob Metcalfe, chips manufactured by Intel’ These chips almost unlimited capacity for processing and transmission of the servers and networks’ At the same time, the software developed by Microsoft, was gulping all the processing power available’ Network management is the main task in maintaining a balance between the ability of hardware and software counters’

The management of the network varies according to demand’ There is no unique way, which applies to all environments’ However, there are certain common elements that are applicable to almost all network applications’ The definition of the network’s management said: “This is a process to maximize the reliability and use of components of the network to optimize network availability and responsiveness’” There are six major decisions that must be affecting the strategy of a high-level network management process’ There are six questions to be answered, and once answered, will be used to formulate the definition of the scope of responsibilities and functional areas of network management environment’ The six key questions are:

- What will be managed by this process?

- Who will manage?

- How much will be given the authority?

- What kind of tools and support will be provided?

- To what extent the processes of integration in this process?

- What levels of service and quality will be forever?

The question is, to be managed by this process? The answer is, it’s the network’ However, this answer is too vague’ Does not determine who is responsible for which aspects of the network’ This becomes essential in large complex environments, where networks that span the world, which will vary depending on the topology, platform, protocol, security, and suppliers’

Maybe the infrastructure is responsible for classified and unclassified networks, with a wide variety of safety requirements, the participation of suppliers, and government regulations’ Must be a quick decision, since the network management is concerned’ It is imperative to decide which aspects of the management task would be administered by the department’ For example, responsibility for managing the encryption can be given to a government agency, and within the security department of the organization may be responsible for managing network security, while the installation of table aid is managed by the operations department of the computer, network password for the administration and other related tasks’

There are other choices’ Each network environments based on their priorities, policies, costs and delays’ Major infrastructure network is barely maintained static, with regard to its importance, popularity and funding’ There are constant changes that require the management team to modify the network management process’ In such situations, rapid decisions must be taken, and it is imperative that these decisions on the management of changes or amendments made during the planning of strategies are communicated to all stakeholders’

Once the decision is made on what will be run, the next choice is to manage’ It is a decision that will determine the services responsible for management tasks such as design, implementation and ongoing management of the process’ Once the department is located, a person must be identified to be assigned to tasks’ This person should have overall responsibility for the project that is assigned’ The person appointed will own the network management process, with the ability of a team leader with the skills to manage people’ Obviously the management of the network, network resources, and skills to manage projects’ With regard to the management of people, the person must be involved in working with the developers of the application profiles, the transaction and the combination of modes of arrival, and the increased workload, work closely and effectively with users on the requirements of the office, connectivity and security’

The owner of the network management process must be seen in network operating systems, utilities, software support, and key hardware components such as routers, switches, hubs and repeaters’ The responsible person must focus on objectives, and have excellent skills in planning’ It is desirable that the owner must have a thorough knowledge of hardware and software infrastructure and capacity for analyzing the parameters’

There are some measures that provide information on the effective management of the network is performing’ The efficiency of the network may be in service in the matrix, such as network availability, network response and connection time’ Process efficiency can be measured by the network of the parent process, such as failures caused by network design, maintenance, test carriers, non-standard devices, lack of training and malpractice’
